The good, the bad and the ugly about Bourke Parakeets as pets!
Jun 25, 2014 · The bad: There aren't much bad things about bourkes. They may have cons if you're looking for a dependant bird, or probably a more interactive one. If your wish is to train a parrot, then bourkes are not the type of bird you are looking for. I'm not saying bourkes are not trainable, i'm sure mostly every animal is.

Sep 10, 2020 · If you’re dead set on getting a companion, I’d try to find another Bourke. Companionship are usually most successful with the same species. With my two it's more like they accept each other. You'll never see them play with or preen each other. Banana ~~ Kiwi ~~ Aguacate ~~~~~Over the rainbow bridge~~~~~Pepper and Coco.

Jan 10, 2017 · IMO, a bourke parakeet is like someone decided to fuse a cockatiel and a finch together! Calm, laid back birds that are very flighty! They are not known to be talkers or be very hands on like cockatiels and budgies (less likely to enjoy getting scritches), but they are still charming little birds! I *DO NOT* recommend clipping these birds!

Mar 10, 2014 · After years of deliberation I've finally "pulled the trigger" so to speak, and now have a sweet little Bourke's parakeet. Name TBD. 3 or so months old, weaned, handfed, unfortunately clipped. Picked him (filler pronoun) up last night - this is his first day with us. Here's a photo. Will take more once he's more settled.
