Plumbers solder vs. Electrical solder..Does it Matter?
May 31, 2005 · Electrical solder was 60:40 or 63:37 with rosin core and plumbing solder was 50:50 tin:lead and often had an acid core. It is even more complicated than it used to be because plumbing solder in the last 10 years or so contains no lead. Soon electrical solder will also be lead free and there are lots of possible replacement alloys.

Jan 18, 2006 · MG chemicals make decent solder, not bad $$ either. Hell, I still have/use Radio Shack solder, pretty decent stuff actually. Bought a fair bit cheap when they closed. RS silver bearing solder was actually fairly premium. DO NOT use plumbers solder for electronics, it's acid core and WILL rot your connections. Same for plumbers flux.

Apr 24, 2013 · I tried the plumber's solder thing just because I had a roll of it. That is definitely a street bike solution. It worked well enough on my 640's front wheel that didn't have a rim lock. But that absolutely won't work with rim locks unless you wrap several spokes with a LOT of solder.

Feb 8, 2004 · If you do end up soldering ends on your cable a 1/2" black iron pipe cap works fine as a makeshift solder pot and the pot can be heated with a propane torch. I used plumbers solder and flux and they worked fine on a clutch cable.

Nov 24, 2006 · Go to a MC shop and get 8oz of self-stick weights, you will use 2 1/2oz for the front and 4oz for the rear. The weights I use are in 1/4oz incriments BTW. Now make 2, 1 1/4oz strips for the front and 2, 2oz strips for the rear. Put the bike on a stand and directly across from each rimlock install the weights, half and each side of the rim.
